TNPSC group 1 prelims exam will comprise 2 sections with 200 questions for the maximum of 300 marks.
The maximum time dutation of the exam is 3 hours.
All questions are set in the English and Tamil languages.
Prelims is a obejective paper and qualifying nature only
The candidates are required to clear the TNPSC group 1 prelims exam to go to the mains exam.
Only 1 out of 50 candidates will be selected to the mains exam.
The selection is done based on the performance in terms of secured marks and cut off marks.

TNPSC Group 1 Syllabus 2021: TNPSC group 1 prelims exam has general studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability Test sections. A total of 150 questions from general studies and 50 questions from aptitude & mental ability will be asked, where candidates have to complete this test in 3 hours. The qualifying marks of TNPSC group 1 prelims exam is 120 for general and 90 for reserved category candidates.

In each stage, applicant should qualify to give interview and it carries 100 marks.

Selected candidates in prelims exam will be called to give mains exam, which carries three papers for 250 marks each. Only 1 out of 50 candidates will go through to give mains exam.
To qualify in the TNPSC group 1 mains exam (including interview), general category candidate should score atleast 408 marks while reserved category candidate need to get 306 marks only.
An interview to be held for the candidates, who clear main exam. Finaly a merit list with selected candidates for group 1 services to be published by considering marks of mains exam and interview together.
